Say Your Final Goodbyes to Tartar!

Clean and bright teeth are a dream of everyone. You can brush twice a day and keep your oral hygiene in order, but still will fall prey to dental problems. One of these problems is tartar. Formation of tartar takes some time but once completed, can lead to serious dental issues like tooth decay and gum recession. It is advised to prevent the formation and deposition of tartar by taking care of oral hygiene daily. But if you do get tartar, you need to follow a few steps to get rid of the same.

What is Tartar?

Tartar is an evolved version of plaque. In simple terms, the bacteria present in your mouth react with the proteins and food particles to form a sticky plaque coating. The plaque covers your teeth, forms below and above your gum lining, and also sticks to your fillings. The tooth enamel is also affected by plaque formation on your teeth and which may lead to cavities. If this plaque is left unattended and not cleaned properly, it hardens up to form tartar.

Where is Tartar Formed?

Tartar is often found above and below the gum lining. It is also called dental calculus, which is rough and porous in texture and can lead to serious gum issues. Even though you will hear about a lot of home remedies for getting rid of tartar, going for a dental procedure is the best and most effective option for your teeth.

Ways to Remove Tartar and Save Your Receding Gums

  • Dental clean up: If you have tartar, there’s no way you can avoid a professional dental cleaning. Under this, your dentist will scrape the tartar from your gums, and if your gum roots are exposed, the dentist will smoothen them out.
  • Fluoride and Triclosan rich toothpaste: After your dental cleaning procedure, make sure you brush your teeth with fluoride and triclosan rich toothpaste. Fluoride is known to help in protecting and repairing enamel damage. Triclosan fights the bacteria found in plaque.
  • Invest in your oral hygiene: Buy an antiseptic mouthwash to rinse your mouth every day to kill bacteria present in your mouth. It is believed that electric toothbrushes help in better cleansing of the mouth. Please include them in your oral hygiene routine.
  • Avoid acidic food and smoking: It is proven that smoking can lead to the formation of tartar. Also, acidic and sugary food is fodder to the bacteria in your mouth. It is better to eat healthy food and reduce the intake of sugary food. Even if you are indulging in starchy and sugar-rich food, make sure to clean your mouth properly and brush your teeth after such meals. These practices help in the prevention of dental issues. If followed diligently, you won’t have to face tartar and tooth decay problems.

It is crucial to focus on your dental hygiene to ensure no tartar formation in your gums. Follow your oral hygiene routine of brushing, flossing and using a mouthwash every day to have a bright and clean set of teeth.
